The Floridian told police he lost control. Then he said he did it because the guy was ‘just there.’

Cause and effect. You neglected to add sufficient oil to your car, so friction and heat built up to the point where your engine exploded. Makes sense, right? Sometimes, people simply don’t operate with logical cause and effect, like this Florida man who ran over a complete stranger with a Toyota Corolla. His reason? He argued over money with his mom.
You can’t make this stuff up. Quaze Simmons got in a gold Toyota Corolla LE and went for a drive after an argument with his mother. The two had reportedly been fighting over money, and it was enough to prompt Simmons to take off in the Corolla.
Simmons was driving the Corolla near the intersection of Josephine Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in South Brooksville, Florida. He then slammed the Toyota sedan into a 74-year-old Florida man sitting on a nearby bench.
According to FOX 13 Tampa Bay, the elderly victim sustained head trauma and “severe” injuries to both legs. As for Simmons, he left the Toyota Corolla parked on the sidewalk of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and fled.
Police contacted the Corolla’s registered owner, who told them that Simmons frequently drove the car. The authorities continued to search the area. That’s when Simmons came walking out of the woods, and police officers arrested him.
Simmons reportedly told members of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) that he was “scared” of how his mother would react to the crash and the damaged state of the Toyota Corolla.
He also admitted to police officers that he had “lost control” of the Corolla. However, police didn’t find any evidence that Simmons had tried to brake or had lost control of the sedan.
Troublingly, he then amended his statement, saying he was upset after the argument and chose to run the man over because he was “just there.” Fortunately, that kind of immaturity and lack of control won’t be on the road anytime soon; Simmons is looking at attempted murder charges for the incident.
