FORT PIERCE, FL – Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has issued civil and criminal subpoenas to Navneet Kaur, CEO of White Hawk Carriers, as part of the investigation into the fatal crash that killed three people.
The legal action targets Kaur and her company to determine how Harjinder Singh, the 28-year-old truck driver charged in the crash, was hired and licensed. The subpoenas come in the wake of an August 12 incident on the Florida Turnpike, when Singh made an illegal U-turn, causing his trailer to jackknife and collide with a minivan.
Singh, who entered the U.S. illegally in 2018, is accused of vehicular homicide and faces three counts, carrying a potential sentence of up to 45 years in prison. Authorities have raised concerns about his commercial driver’s licenses from California and Washington, which he reportedly obtained despite limited English proficiency.
The subpoena requires Kaur to provide all relevant employment and licensing records by September 26. Speaking to reporters, Uthmeier emphasized that his office would “use every legal tool at our disposal to fight back and protect our citizens.”
Singh was arrested on August 16 in Stockton, California, following a nationwide manhunt after he and his brother Florida.
The case is said to have caused the U.S. to suspend new truck driver work visas.
