Former WWE employee Janel Grant has agreed to pause her lawsuit against WWE, ex-WWE chairman and CEO Vince McMahon and former WWE head of talent relations John Laurinaitis following a request from the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York “pending a non-public investigation.”
Ann Callis, an attorney for Grant, emailed the following statement to Ariel Zilber of the New York Post:
“Ms. Grant has consented to a request by the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York to stay her case against Mr. McMahon, WWE and Mr. Laurinaitis, pursuant to a pending non-public investigation. We will cooperate with all appropriate next steps.”
Grant has alleged that she was sexually assaulted and trafficked during her time with WWE.
Jessica Rosenberg, an attorney for McMahon, denied Grant’s allegations on behalf of her client to Chloe Melas of NBC News: “We remain confident the evidence will prove Ms. Grant’s allegations are false and her complaint is nothing more than a fabricated, vindictive narrative from a disgruntled former girlfriend.”
Joe Palazzolo, Khadeeja Safdar and Ted Mann of the Wall Street Journal reported in February that feds have contacted women “in recent months” regarding allegations of McMahon’s sexual misconduct. That investigation reportedly began in 2022.
The stay in the Grant case is expected to last six months, per Lucas Shaw of Bloomberg.
