PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -It may be summer, but the Gulf Coast softball field is set to get some international competition Wednesday. We spoke with Gulf Coast Softball head coach Scot Thomas about that Tuesday afternoon.
“We got a phone call from our friends at Northwest Florida.” coach Thomas said. “Teams were looking for some games that are with the Peru National Team that they have a connection with. Gave me a call and I said hey we’ll do what we can. Called up a couple of our local travel ball teams. So it’s kind of a great experience for those kids. The Addictive team run by David Hutchison and those will primarily be kids from the Panhandle. And then out of the Dothan area there will be a team led by Ashley Cole. And there’s going to be some players on that team actually that have already committed, actually signed them, will be freshman here in the fall.”
Team Peru will play the Fury out of Dothan at 6 and will play the more locally based Addictive team at 8. Coach Thomas went on to tell us they are now into “Tuesday Night Lights” which is a series of Tuesday night clinics for area high school players. Thomas also getting set to host a three clinic for kids 7-12 starting Monday the 23rd and running through Wednesday the 25th.
