Hankerson’s Career-High Leads Beavs to Win
CORVALLIS, Ore. – A dominant second half pushed Oregon State ahead for the win over Lafayette on Saturday night.
The Beavers (1-7) found the end zone on five drives across the third and fourth quarters as they pulled away for a 45-13 win over the Leopards. Three second half drives went over 70 yards (73, 81, 78) as the Beavers recorded their first win of the season.
Totaling 365 yards on the ground, Oregon State held a sizable advantage to just 87 from Lafayette on the evening. With a career-best 204 rushing yards, Anthony Hankerson paced the attack while Gabarri Johnson (82) followed. Hankerson found paydirt four times – a season-best – with Johnson also tallying a score.
Johnson paced Beaver signal-callers with 79 yards on seven completions and a score through the air. With 48 yards apiece, Karson Boschma and Gabe Milbourn led the Oregon State receiving corps against the Leopards. Skyler Thomas led the defense in a pair of categories, total tackles (8.0) and solo stops with six. Kobe Singleton broke up a team-best two passes while Jojo Johnson led the Beavers with four quarterback hurries.
Oregon State’s defense kept Lafayette in check with no second half drives going for more than 26 yards as well as forcing two at minus-five.
The sides traded first quarter field goals before the Leopards used a 10-point run in the second quarter’s final 1:48 to take a 13-10 lead into the intermission.
Following an off week, the Beavers will return to action against Pac-12 foe Washington State. Kickoff against the Cougars – on November 1 – will be shown nationally on CBS.
