When I was growing up in the 60s, our family doctor made house calls. He came to our house with his black medical bag and cured us from measles, mumps, etc. Very little overhead costs. Now, if you want to see a doctor, you have to go to his office. He has a receptionist, a nurse, a janitor, a maintenance man and a mortgage or rent for his office. Huge overhead costs. And what does the doctor do? Does he examine you? No, he orders lab tests and goes over the results with you. Not saying that’s a bad thing. Just trying to point out that the “overhead” costs are enormous compared to what they once were and that’s why health costs are so high. Likewise, technology, like MRIs, CATs cans, Ultrasound, etc., have performed miracles. But it’s expensive. So, what’s the solution??? Well, I can tell you that government run health care is not the solution. When my wife needed bypass heart surgery, she got it in two weeks. When her cousin, a nurse in the UK, needed the same surgery it took two years because health care is rationed. She’s lucky that she didn’t die while waiting. In fact, the woman who once headed the UK’s health care system died while waiting for life saving surgery. Furthermore, just recently, a Canadian war vet requested a chair lift. She was offered euthanasia, instead. And look at Cuba’s government run health care system. Do you really want to go there for treatment???
