Huskies FInish Fourth at Metropolis Intercollegiate
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The UConn men’s golf team got their season underway this week and tied for fourth place at The Metropolis Intercollegiate at the Metropolis Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.
The Huskies finished the tournament with a team score of 878 (+38) on the par 70, 6,827 yard course, tying with host Columbia for fourth place in the 15 team field. North Dakota State and Richmond were co-champions of the event, both finishing at +27 (867) for the tournament. Siena was third shooting 875 (+35).
UConn played two rounds on Monday, shooting 295 on the first 18 holes and then came roaring back in the afternoon, posting the third lowest round at 286. The Huskies finished the tournament with a 297 on Tuesday.
Junior Bradley Sawka led the team, finishing in fifth place individually with a final score of 215 (+5) after consistent rounds of 71 (+1), 72 (+2), and 72 (+2). It was his third career top-10 finish. Sophomore Caden Blanchette also delivered a strong performance, tying for eighth with a total score of 217 (+7), highlighted by his second-round 71 (+1), marking his first career top-10.
Junior Connor Goode contributed to the effort by tying for 17th, posting a final score of 220 (+10) with rounds of 74 (+4), 72 (+2), and 74 (+4). Sophomores Matthew Costello and Kai-Jun Huang, playing as an individulal, ended the event tied for 35th, each shooting 226 (+16). Costello’s scores included a second-round 71 (+1). Freshman Brennan Korn finished 82nd with a cumulative score of 249 (+39).
The Huskies will return to action on September 20 and 21 taking part in The GOAT tournament hosted at the Navy Academy Golf Club
