- WWE’s leniency allows stars like Rhodes to pursue acting opportunities.
John Cena, Dwayne Johnson, and Dave Bautista have all successfully made the jump from WWE to Hollywood, and now Cody Rhodes is looking to join that list. Several wrestlers have attempted to make a splash in the acting world with mixed levels of success. Still, with WWE growing in popularity, there are opportunities there for more people to make the transition.
Rhodes has become one of the biggest names in the industry after recently holding the WWE Championship for a full year. That makes him a great contender for appeal in the movie world, and he has his eyes on a potential video game adaptation, should it be greenlit.

Netflix needs to start developing its Gears of War movie while video-game adaptations remain a hot trend.
The ‘American Nightmare’ might be all in on his professional wrestling career right now, but he is known for being a fan of video games. That is why he revealed to ComicBook.com that he would have a significant interest in playing a character from a potential Metal Gear Solid movie adaptation, should that end up happening at some stage in the future. He doesn’t have a specific character in mind but would simply like to be involved.
“I feel like I’m slightly aging out of some of the characters that I really like, but it would always be anything in Metal Gear Solid, and I would take anything in Metal Gear Solid. Like, if you need me to learn Russian and do Revolver Ocelot, I would do it. If you just put the hood on me I’d do Cyborg Ninja. So I would do anything in Metal Gear Solid,” Rhodes said.
A Metal Gear Solid movie has been in development for a while at this point, with Oscar Isaac having previously been rumored to play Solid Snake. However, there has been a lack of updates in recent times, and it’s currently unclear what stage in development the movie is at or whether it will ever see the light of day. The video game franchise is a popular one, though. The timing could be perfect with adaptations from the gaming world performing well lately, with the likes of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Fallout thriving. Rhodes is also a fan of the Metal Gear Solid franchise and even attempted to pay tribute to Cyborg Ninja at WWE WrestleMania 41 with his entrance attire. He said, “The helmet I wore at WrestleMania was supposed to open up like Cyborg Ninja’s and it more opened up like Tony Stark’s.”
Rhodes may primarily be a professional wrestler, but his in-ring style is very story-driven. The WWE Superstar is notorious for showcasing lots of emotions during his storylines. Whether it’s via promos or matches, he heavily pushes the entertainment aspect of WWE, which would make a transition into acting sensible for him. He also has some acting experience, having played Derek Sampson in the hit show Arrow, and he will be involved in The Naked Gun, which will be released later this year.
WWE is now a lot more lenient in regards to letting contracted talent appear in movies and television shows around their wrestling schedule, which will provide further opportunities for talent to branch out into that world. For example, Liv Morgan is currently taking time off WWE to film Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo. Therefore, if a significant opportunity did arise for Rhodes, there would be a good chance he could take it on, but that wasn’t always the case. Therefore, if the Metal Gear Solid does begin to progress forward, then Rhodes’ desire to be involved in it could end up coming true, as he looks ahead to a future away from WWE.
