K-State Tennis Begin Fall Slate

MANHATTAN, Kan.– The K-State women’s tennis team announced its fall competition on Thursday (September 18) with the first tournament starting on the weekend. The fall slate includes 12 potential tournaments including three by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The first tournament begins on Saturday, September 20, with the ITA All-American Championship in Cary, N.C., at Cary Tennis Park. Returning Wildcats junior Maralgoo Chogsomjav and sophomore Zhanel Rustemova qualified for doubles competition while Chogsomjav will also compete in the singles pre-qualifying rounds. In the ITA preseason poll on August 26, Chogsomjav and Rustemova were ranked in doubles at no. 79.
The last weekend of September there are two simultaneous events, the Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Sept. 25-28 at the Western Racquet Club in Milwaukee, Wis., as well as the Husker Invitational hosted by Nebraska on Sept. 26-28 in Lincoln, Neb.
Starting off October is the Cyclone Invitational in Ames, Iowa, on October 3-5 hosted by conference familiar Iowa State. The ITA Central Regional Championship will take place on October 16-20 hosted by the Sooners in Norman, Okla. The Wildcats will compete in Tempe, Ariz., for a consecutive season in the Thunderbird Invitational on October 31-November 2.
Towards the end of the schedule there is a potential for competition in three International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments, including ITF Sumter (Oct. 27-30) in Sumter, S.C., ITF Lincoln (Nov. 3-5) in Lincoln, Neb., and ITF Clemson (Nov. 10-13) in Clemson, S.C.
The ITA Central Sectional begins in College Station, Texas, on November 6-9, hosted by Texas A&M before qualifying individuals will finish the season at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship on November 18-23 in Orlando, Fla., at the USTA National Campus.
The Wildcats roster includes five new additions, freshman Martaa Chogsomjav, sister of Maralgoo, junior transfer Margaret Jaraczewski, freshman Diana Smolinska and freshman twins Addison Renfro and Mallory Renfro.
