
TULSA, Okla. (SMU) – SMU men’s golf sits in ninth place after day one of the Clerico from Southern Hills Country Club.
Two rounds were on the slate for Monday though not all teams finished the second round due to darkness. The Mustangs were able to complete both rounds posting a 17-over in round one followed by a five-over in round two. The team moved up three spots during the second round. They sit at 22-over for the tournament alone in ninth place. Auburn and Oklahoma State are the only teams below par.
Senior Will Sides paced the Mustang field on day one. He shot a 73 in round one followed by a 69 in round two to move up 17 spots on the leaderboard. He sits in 11th place.
Fellow senior Zachary Kingsland shot rounds of 76 and 71 and moved up 13 spots in round two. Kingsland eagled the par five 537 yard 13th hole. The Austin, Texas native holds a share of 35th
One shot back of Kingsland sits Gabe Post. Post registered rounds of 76 and 72 with three birdies on the back nine of round two. He holds a share of 38th.
Two Mustangs are among those in a tie for 46th place. Christian Clark shot rounds of 77 and 73 while freshman Ben Steinmann carded a 72 and a 78 in his first appearance in the primary lineup.
The tournament picks up where it was interrupted on Tuesday morning. The Mustangs will be looking to climb the final day leaderboard.
