No. 8 Eagles take down No.4 Maryland in Opening Game of ACC/Big Ten Challenge

Durham, N.C. – No. 8 Boston College (3-0) shutout No. 4 Maryland Terrapin (2-1) with a score of 2-0 to open the ACC/Big Ten Challenge hosted at Duke.

This marks the first time BC has defeated Maryland since 2021, at the same event. The last time the Eagles pulled off an upset over a ranked team was on Nov. 6 of last season against Duke at the ACC Tournament.

The Eagles fought through the first half of the game going scoreless into halftime.

A fast break directly out of the break led to the first goal of the game from Melea Weber with an assist from Caroline Chisholm.

BC did not stop there as they continued to hold the Terrapin without a goal as they added another in the fourth quarter. The Eagles were awarded a penalty stroke as Chisholm took it to the back of the net to extend the lead and ultimately close the game.

Both teams tied in shots (8-8) and shots on goal (3-3) but the Eagles had the edge on saves (3-1) with combined help from Charlotte Kramer and Carine Van Wiechen in the net.
