Yard Goats fans will be treated to a different kind of delight at Dunkin’ Park after a game on Sept. 5 – old-school hip-hop artist the Sugarhill Gang.
The team typically holds a post-game concert near the end of each season.
Sugarhill Gang is well known for its 1979 hit, “Rapper’s Delight,” ranked No. 251 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
The song, which blends hip-hop with funk and disco, was the first of its genre to earn a Top 40 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and is widely considered to be the first mainstream hip-hop song.
Sugarhill Gang was formed by three friends from Englewood, New Jersey, in 1979 – the same year their first and only Top 40 hit was released.
The group launched a world tour in 2016 with several new members.
The Yard Goats added the concert to show appreciation for fans and sponsors who support the team, and to commemorate the team’s 10th anniversary.
The Yard Goats, the Double-A Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, will host the Philadelphia Phillies affiliate on Sept. 5. The game begins at 7:10 p.m. Tickets, which include the post-game concert, are available.
“We’re excited to once again reward our fans with a fun post-game concert, as a thank you for the tremendous support as we celebrate our 10th season,” said Mike Abramson, general manager of the Yard Goats. “We’re all looking forward to seeing the Sugarhill Gang perform their hits on the field at Dunkin’ Park.”
