A rabid raccoon was found in Amityville earlier this month, according to the Suffolk County Department of Health Services.
The raccoon was found dead on March 4 and was confirmed positive for rabies on March 7.
This is the second case of rabies in a raccoon in Suffolk County this year. The previous case was found on Jan. 28.
Before this year, Suffolk County had not reported a rabid raccoon since 2009.
