SafeWork NSW and inspectors are on site at Sydney Olympic Park to ensure businesses working at the Sydney Royal Easter Show are fulfilling their obligations to manage risks and provide a safe environment for workers and the 900,000 patrons expected through the turnstiles when the event kicks off today.
During the pre-show “bump-in” period, SafeWork NSW conducted compliance inspections and safety audits to ensure facilities such as food and beverage stalls were installed safely, workers were wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, all high-risk tasks were carried out by licensed professionals, and all electrical work was performed in a safe manner.
Inspectors also checked all fireworks are stored in line with required safety standards and fireworks displays are set up correctly and workers are protected when working at heights installing amusement rides and other structures.
Last year, SafeWork NSW issued 23 notices for non-compliance related to falls from heights, improper use of personal protective equipment, unlicensed work and the use of improper forklift attachments.
When the gates officially open on 2 April, SafeWork NSW inspectors will remain on site throughout the two-week event to monitor compliance with work health and safety laws and respond to any incidents which may arise.
SafeWork NSW will also remain on site after the Sydney Royal Easter Show concludes on 13 April for the “bump-out” period.

“Given the size and scale of this event, it is especially important the venue is safe for workers setting up the rides and stalls, as well as for the thousands of people expected to attend.
“SafeWork NSW is on site to ensure businesses working at the Sydney Royal Easter Show are meeting their responsibilities to keep workers and those attending safe, so everyone makes it home safely at the end of each day.
“Our inspectors will have a constant presence at the show and will be providing advice and assistance where it is needed.”
