Six Earn NFHCA All-Region Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Four Syracuse University field hockey players earned NFHCA All-Region honors for the Mideast, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Wednesday morning.

Aiden Drabick, Jessie Eiselin, Lieke Leeggangers, and Bo van Kempen were all named First Team All-Region while Hattie Madden and Aubrey Turner were selected Second Team All-Region. Van Kempen earns her second First Team All-Region honor, while Leeggangers adds to her Second Team All-Region from a year ago.

The Orange led the Mideast Region with their six selections, including a regional-best four on the First Team. Yale and UConn each had three on the First Team. Syracuse’s six total honorees also led the Mideast Region. Yale had five total while UConn had four regional honorees.

Below are capsules from each Syracuse honoree in alphabetical order.

Aiden Drabick | First Team | Redshirt Senior | Midfield

Drabick played in all 20 games for the Orange, making 19 starts in the midfield. The redshirt senior added speed up top for Syracuse while issuing three assists, including one against No. 6 Wake Forest (Nov. 5) in the first round of the ACC Tournament. 

Jessie Eiselin | First Team | Junior | Goalkeeper

Eiselin played in all 20 games for the Orange, making 19 starts. She logged 757 total minutes in goal, splitting time with freshman Tane King until the postseason when Eiselin played in 277 of 280 possible minutes. The Amsterdam, Netherlands product made 22 saves during the ACC and NCAA Tournaments, including a season high nine against No. 6 Wake Forest (Nov. 5).

Lieke Leeggangers | First Team | Senior | Midfield

Leeggangers played in all 20 games, making 19 starts. She finished her senior campaign with three goals, striking against No. 2 North Carolina (Oct. 17) and on the road at Boston College (Oct. 24), while adding a goal in the second game of the year against Fairfield. Leeggangers inserted 13 corners during the season as well, with a season-high five against Colgate (Oct. 3).

Hattie Madden | Second Team | Junior | Forward

Playing and starting all 20 games for the Orange in the midfield, Madden finished her junior season with 19 points behind nine goals and one assist. She scored twice during the postseason, striking against No. 6 Wake Forest (Nov. 5) in the final second of the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals and again with a go-ahead goal against No. 6 Liberty (Nov. 14) in the final seconds of the third quarter. Matriculating from Lytham, England, Madden scored the game-winning goal in double overtime at No. 13 Ohio State (Sept. 7), helping Syracuse go 2-0 during its first-ever ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Aubrey Turner | Second Team | Freshman | Forward

Turner played and started in all 20 games as a freshman forward this season, finishing the year ranked fourth on the team with 18 points. Hailing from Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Turner notched seven goals with four assists. Her most dramatic tally came in the First Round NCAA Tournament, converting the game-winning shootout goal against No. 6 Liberty (Nov. 14). Added a SportsCenter Top 10 goal against No. 6 Wake Forest (Nov. 5) during the first round of the ACC Tournament. 

Bo van Kempen | First Team | Graduate Student | Back

Playing and starting on the back line for all 20 games this year, van Kempen was one of the nation’s most elite goal scorers, striking 23 times and ranking fifth in Division I with a 1.15 goals per game average. She was also tied nationally with 2.65 points per game thanks to an additional seven assists. Her 53 points were the fourth-most by any player in the country this year. Van Kempen scored four goals during the postseason, including two against No. 4 Virginia (Nov. 6) and once each against No. 6 Liberty (Nov. 14) and No. 3 Princeton (Nov. 16). The Zevenaar, Netherlands native scored five times on six penalty stroke attempts.
