At last year’s SMU Invitational, both Rainbow Warrior and Rainbow Wahine swim and dive teams found success at the meet. Rainvow Warrior swimmer Karol Ostrowski broke the Robson and Lindley Aquatics Center pool record in the 50 free and later set a new program record in the 200 free which earned him Big West Athlete of the Week honors. Men’s diver Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo took home gold in the 3-meter dive, while Rainbow Wahine diver Lovisa Gustavsson won the platform dive. Former Rainbow Wahine Catherine Belyakov also claimed Big West Athlete of the Week honors after the winning the 200 individual medley with the second-fastest time in UH history..She also anchored the second place 200 freestyle relay while also swimming in the 400 medley and 400 free relays which both finished in third.
The ‘Bows swim teams are nearly a month removed from their last meet where they faced Grand Canyon in a pair of dual meets at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. Leading the way for the Rainbow Wahine is senior Holly Nelson who earned Big West Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career after tallying eight podium finishes, including six wins and a team-high 34 points across the two meets. The Rainbow Warriors will be led by senior Karol Ostrowski who recorded eight total victories, and posted new DKAC records in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 medley relay.
UH’s dive teams return to action after a solid showing at the Cal Baptist Diving Invite a few weeks ago. UH’s Tamayo won the 3-meter dive, claiming the ‘Bows’ highest finish at the two-day event, while Rainbow Wahine freshman Keira Chandler placed second on both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter springboard events.
