Swimmer dies after going missing off Clearwater Beach

CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — A swimmer who vanished and was later found near Clearwater Beach on Tuesday has died, Clearwater city officials said.

Joshua Westley, 34, was reported missing by his family members around 3:30 p.m. just south of Pier 60.

About an hour later, rescue crews found him about 40 to 50 feet from shore.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission assisted in the case.
