The Tesla Diner in Hollywood has only been open for a few months, but big changes are already on the way.

Eric Greenspan, chef and co-operator of the diner at 7001 Santa Monica Blvd., is leaving to focus on a new restaurant.

“I am leaving the Tesla Diner project to focus on the opening of Mish, my long-desired Jewish deli,” Greenspan wrote in a text message to the Los Angeles Times. “Projects like Mish and the Tesla Diner require a sharpness of focus and attention, and my focus and attention is now squarely on Mish.”

The diner has faced protests and criticism from neighbors and those who dislike Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Greenspan did not respond to the Times when asked if that negative publicity influenced his decision to leave.

The diner is also changing formats, with a switch to a full-service model expected in the coming year. Staff told the Times the change could happen as soon as January.

The Times was unable to reach Tesla for comment, and KTLA’s request for comment wasn’t immediately returned. This story will be updated if a response is received.
