Bret Hart has maintained his stance on a common trope of modern wrestling matches.
Widely regarded as one of the best wrestlers of all time, The Hitman’s technical style paved the way for many future stars and proved that there was a place in the “Land of the Giants” for those of a more normal stature. Although Hart’s influence is still seen in matches of the modern era, other elements have become far more divisive.
While some fans struggle to watch the modern product due to the overreliance on high spots that purists argue make the style too unrealistic, Hart’s grievance was with another feature that old-school fans have an issue with.
When asked about his thoughts on the modern era during a signing at Signed by Superstars, the WWE Hall of Famer admitted that despite the fact that it had been a long while since he had watched any modern wrestling, there was one aspect that sprung to mind:
“They need to ban the slap spots.”
During the same signing, Bret Hart gave his latest thoughts on Goldberg.
Priding himself on never injuring his opponents, Hart had a skill for making his offence look dangerous without ever causing any physical harm to others. However, The Hitman did not receive the same privilege during his own career. When shown a photo of himself receiving a certain finisher, Bret Hart branded it as dangerous and had to tell his opponent to stop.
In other news, Hart’s streak that began in 1997 is set to come to an end as John Cena is set to become a guest star on The Simpsons, ending The Hitman’s reign as the only wrestler to feature on the sitcom.
H/t to Fightful.
