Update: Upstate Medical appointments canceled, but hospital visitation resumes after tech outage

Update 3:25 p.m.: Upstate University Hospital’s emergency room has reopened to normal traffic after a network failure that crippled the health system was resolved.

Outpatient appointments are canceled Tuesday, but visits to hospital patients have resumed, officials said.

Update: 250 p.m.: Visitation at Upstate University and Community General hospitals has resumed after a tech outage, officials said.

Systems were slowly coming back online around 2:45 p.m. after a major outage during the lunch hour canceled outpatient appointments and took down computers and phones across the Upstate network.

Upstate previously canceled all outpatient appointments at its hospitals and outpatient centers for the remainder of the day Tuesday.

The Upstate University Hospital emergency room was temporarily closed to all new patients except Level 1 trauma cases, a spokesman said.

Syracuse, NY — All patient appointments to Upstate Medical facilities — including hospitals and outpatient facilities — are canceled the remainder of Tuesday due to a technology outage.

Upstate’s phone and computer networks went down early Tuesday afternoon.

Upstate’s network includes the two hospitals, nearly a dozen specialized centers and dozens of other offices scattered around the region.
