UW School of Medicine joins study of AI use in breast cancer screening

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast cancer is still the second leading cause of cancer death among women, and more than 42,000 women will die from the disease this year, according to the American Cancer Society.

But since 1989, breast cancer deaths have been reduced by 44% and one of the reasons for that is increased detection from regular screenings

Now, with the help of the University of Wisconsin, those screenings are read could be changing, the school and UW Health is taking part in the PRISM study, which is testing the effectiveness of using AI to help radiologists with breast cancer screenings.
