Stanford enters the 2025 season under interim head coach Frank Reich, who will be making his collegiate coaching debut. Reich, the former head coach of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers, inherits a Stanford team that went 3-9 in 2024. However, the Cardinal will return 14 starters and 75 lettermen to the roster in 2025.
Last season, the Cardinal had five games decided by three points or fewer, going 2-3 with a point differential of -4 in those contests. Freshmen accounted for more than 85 percent of Stanford’s rushing yards from running backs in 2024, which was the second-highest total in FBS football last year, trailing only fellow ACC member Louisville.
Hawai’i went 5-7 in 2024, including a 3-4 mark in Mountain West play, under head coach Timmy Chang. The Rainbow Warriors averaged more than 300 yards per game through the air in 2024 after moving to a Run and Shoot offense under Chang, who is Hawai’i’s all-time leading passer. The clash with the Cardinal marks the Warriors’ first-ever clash against an ACC opponent.
