What AccuWeather is describing as the “mother lode” of cold air is expected to blast through the United States over the weekend and into next week.
Temperatures in the Florida Panhandle will drop to the coldest we’ve seen seen this winter. The Pensacola area will see lows in the upper 20s on Sunday night, while areas around Destin and Panama City Beach will see temperatures drop into the low-30s, according to the National Weather Service.
Unlike the other parts of the country, the Florida Panhandle isn’t expected to see any snowfall, despite subfreezing overnight temperatures, but it is forecast to see widespread frost early Tuesday morning.
Arctic winds will blast the Florida Panhandle Sunday, early next week
Starting on Sunday, Dec. 14, a cold front will seep into the Florida Panhandle. High temperatures are expected to be around 61 degrees but low temperatures will plummet to a frigid 28 degrees by Sunday night.
Monday’s high will be about 10 degrees cooler, hitting a high of 51 degrees and a low still around 32 degrees. The National Weather Service forecasts widespread frost around 3 a.m., which will stick until 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
Temperatures will start to rebound mid-to-late next week, with high temperatures hitting the 70s.
“While it may feel like Christmastime already with the cold and snow, the bitterly cold pattern is not expected to last through the holidays,” AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok said in its forecast.
What’s the Christmas Day weather forecast for the Florida Panhandle?
Long range forecasts currently show that Christmas Day will have near-normal temperatures, if not slightly above. AccuWeather forecasts a high around 68 degrees and a low near 46 degrees.
