WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police have arrested and charged a man in connection with the armed robbery of a video game and trading card store on Princess Street.
Court records show Joseph Trevor Wilson, 36, of Wilmington, was arrested on Sunday and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping, and interfering with emergency communication. The charges stem from a January 6 incident at Video Game Time.
According to arrest warrants, investigators say Wilson threatened a store employee with what appeared to be a firearm and stole cash, valuable Pokémon trading cards, and the employee’s Motorola Edge cell phone.
Charging documents allege the employee was pepper sprayed, zip-tied, and forced to the ground during the robbery.
The robbery left a lasting impact on the small business owner.
“It has made me sad, putting my employee into that spot,” said Austin Parker, the owner of Video Game Time.
In addition to the robbery-related charges, court records show Wilson was also arrested Sunday on multiple unrelated charges. Those charges include felony possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce, possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, driving while license revoked, no liability insurance, and a city ordinance violation.
Wilson is currently being held without bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
