- A Microsoft spokesperson has denied the company’s involvement in the Yorkville project.
- Microsoft is already building large data centers in nearby Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin.
The Yorkville village board and plan commission is scheduled to discuss a pre-application for a “proposed backup data center” at at Dec. 8 meeting.
It is unclear from the agenda which company is behind pre-application.
While some many might think Microsoft is behind the project, the company has denied involvement with this development.
“Microsoft is not currently evaluating any sites for data center development in Yorkville,” a Microsoft spokesperson said to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Microsoft has been looking for a second location for a data center in Racine County and was considering building in Caledonia, until vocal opposition from residents caused the company to change the location.
Microsoft has a very large data center under construction in Mount Pleasant and is building a second data center right next to it and it owns roughly 2,005 acres of land in Mount Pleasant.
