Best things to buy: Shopping editor Carina Rossi shares fashion, beauty and bedding recommendations including her favourite sheet mask, CC cream and more

It’s true, I shop a lot. Doesn’t help that it’s my job. But if you ever wondered what a shopping tragic would always recommend and buy again (and again), allow me to share part two of my Black Book of Buy Agains. Missed part one? You can catch up here.

The sheet mask that will transform your skin

Biodance Bio Collagen Real Deep Mask, $25

If you’re sensing a theme here, you’d be right. My skincare/anti-aging routine is fairly locked. I like what I like, and I don’t ever stray. This is an overnight mask that works best if you can sleep like a corpse. You’ll wake to glowing, insanely hydrated skin and will have a better day for it. I use this every Sunday and the night before a special occasion for an extra boost of hydration.

The quilts that make my bed look 5-star

Bonny All-Rounder Quilt and Bonny Summer Quilt

I sleep with two quilts. The Bonny All-Rounder Quilt and Bonny Summer Quilt. Sounds like a hot sleeper’s idea of a bad time. But it’s actually a smart way to have your bed looking and feeling like the luxury you’d expect from a 5-star hotel.

Bonny quilts are 90 per cent down with a 100 per cent cotton outer, which makes sleeping with two surprisingly comfortable. I stuff my King-size Sheet Society quilt cover with both quilts (also in King size, for anyone playing at home) and instantly get the ultra-fluffy look of a hotel quilt.

I know, “But what do you do when it’s too hot to sleep with the quilt?”

Heatwave weather is the only time this has been an issue, and the only sensible solution is to sleep without it.

The foundation that will move with your ageing skin

IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ cream

It Cosmetics CC Cream

It Cosmetics CC Cream It Cosmetics

For 10 years, I’ve been slapping this CC cream on my face (shade Medium in summer, Light Medium in winter). It’s packed with skincare, a bit of SPF (but don’t rely on it for sun protection; you have to be better than that) and gives a helpful-for-ageing-skin dewy finish that doesn’t leave you looking too shiny.

To make it last longer and give a sheerer finish suitable for every day, I find the formula is stable enough to mix with a dot of face oil or moisturiser. To this day, it still remains my one true love.

The sunglasses that make the perfect frames for your prescription

Buying quality sunglasses, popping out the lenses and converting them to my prescription is the only way I will feel happy wearing prescription glasses every day – I’ve suffered boring frames for too long.

I take advantage of my health fund’s optical extras to help reduce the cost and always check first that my prescription will work with the frames I choose, which is why I always buy from reputable optical retailers like Jimmy Fairly, who can do no wrong in the style department.

The shampoo that’s like getting a salon wash at home

Revlon Professional Uniq 1 Shampoo, $19.99

A salon-level pick, this was introduced to me by my hairdresser (hi, Paul!) who was sick of hearing about the supermarket-brand shampoos I was subjecting my hair to. Turns out there are bad and really bad shampoos out there.

I don’t use a conditioner; instead, I lather my hair from the mid-length down with the Uniq 1 Mask. As someone who hair-washes once a week, this is the perfect treatment that eliminates the need for a specific conditioner.

The swimmers you’ll buy year after year

Fella Swim swimwear

Swimwear shopping is a special kind of hell. The standard advice – “find a style that works and buy it in every colour” – is great in theory, but most brands abandon their best silhouettes the moment a new trend appears. Enter Fella. The Australian label has solved the problem ditching the seasonal churn for a permanent suite of ‘forever’ cuts. They’ve mastered the art of the reliable base; once you find your fit, you can simply buy it again in a different colourway or pattern if you feel like a refresh, without the trauma of a fitting room breakdown.
