FMU snaps 8 year drought with 1-0 victory over Ave Maria in season opener

AVE MARIA, Fla. | The Florida Memorial University women’s soccer team snapped an eight-year drought with a 1-0 victory over Ave Maria at Gyrene Field in the season opener. The win snaps eight straight years without a victory over Ave Maria.

In a tight scoreless contest, FMU defender Julia Duarte scored the match-winner in the first minute of the second half as the Lions held on for the historic win.

FMU goalkeeper Isabella Rueda finished with a team-high two saves in the victory.

Florida Memorial University returns to action on Wednesday, September 3 as they travel south to face Florida National in non-conference play. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. at Milander Park.
