Hyundai teases Insteroid Concept – electric muscle with video game vibes
Hyundai is yet again pushing the boundaries of electric car design with the wild Insteroid concept. Based on the recently revealed Inster EV it adds muscle car elements and gaming-inspired features. The result is a striking concept that Hyundai claims was designed to ignite an emotional connection with electric vehicles.

The Insteroid’s design is as aggressive as it gets. A massive double rear wing dominates the rear, hinting at the car’s serious performance potential. The vehicle’s widened rear axle gives it a wide stance, and vented box arches and 21-inch wheels add to its muscular looks. The roll cage suggests a track-focused design, and a small 3D-printed component clipped to a rear wing support adds a unique, modern touch.
The name “Insteroid” itself is a blend of “Inster” and “Steroid,” and reflects Hyundai’s intent to amplify the electric car experience. The company states that the Insteroid is designed to “boost the emotional experience of electric cars.” That explains the playful details throughout the vehicle, from the control buttons to the instrument cluster, and even the brakes.
Hyundai has remained tight-lipped about the Insteroid’s performance specifications, but the concept’s design suggests a potential for high-performance driving. The wide track and overall chassis proportions draw comparisons to the Hyundai RN24 drift kart. This earlier concept combined an Ioniq 5 N structure with a stripped-back design, hinting at the possibility of a similar approach for the Insteroid. Some subtle image enhancements of the teaser picture show a WRC-inspired build, showing the company is going for that video-game-in-real-life feeling.
The teaser images show a message written along the side of the car, “Looking for something?” This could be a reference to Hyundai wanting to forge a deeper emotional connection with electric driving – our guess is as good as yours. Hyundai has confirmed that the Insteroid will be officially unveiled in early April 2025. This is when we should find out a bit more about the concept’s performance capabilities and whether it actually previews a future Inster-based electric hot hatch.
