Wednesday night, two vigils took place – both calling for healing in the community.
There is a growing memorial outside of Willie’s on St Helena’s Island as community members return to lay flowers, candles and balloons. That is just the beginning of what the community of Beaufort County has been doing to share strength in this time.
Dr. Kelly Ramsey is a pastor in the area and says that many in his congregation have been touched by this tragedy.
“In a time like this people are scared they don’t know if they can go out to have fun and people are not sure if their loved ones are going to come home. I felt like this was an event that I thought would help and ignite a prayer mantle across the community.”
“So many of our members were affected directly and indirectly by this tragic event and I just wanted to spread the thought of hope and faith to the community.”
Ramsey says that he is hoping to begin a series of prayer circles in different locations around the county to remind people who may be dealing with pain that they have people they can lean on.
“Wrap your loving arms around every family member, every friends every community member who mourns.”
Just a short drive away, the memorial outside of Willie’s continues to grow. Community members continue to place flower, candles, and balloons around the memorial to show that they will not forget what happened here.
