New Jersey gamers eager to snatch up the latest Nintendo Switch 2 console will have to wait just a bit longer as the company halted preorders last week due to Trump’s sweeping new tariffs.

Eight years after its last console release, Nintendo had announced its new next generation Switch 2 on April 2, setting a price tag on the latest tech device and a preorder date of April 9. A few hours later, Trump imposed so-called reciprocal tariffs on dozens of countries, including Vietnam, where the new Switch is made.

Nintendo swiftly reversed course amid the unknown, announcing the decision to halt preorders on April 9 to “assess the potential impact on tariffs and evolving market condition,” according to Polygon, who was first to report the news. Trump later placed a 90-day pause on tariffs including Vietnam, but much is still unknown about how the delay will affect the Switch 2’s price.

Here’s what to know about when you can get your hands on the Nintendo Switch 2 in New Jersey, where to purchase it, how much it will be and why you might be able to get it sooner if you are a Nintendo Account holder.

A first batch of emailed invitations will go out on May 8 to registered Nintendo Account holders who meet certain criteria. Emails will then be “periodically” sent to eligible registrants until purchase of the console is open to all.
