Syracuse Defense Unable to Contain Penn State Offense

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Syracuse Women’s Ice Hockey team faced a tough challenge on Friday afternoon falling 7-0 to #6 Penn State at Pegula Ice Arena.
 
Syracuse (6-8-0) struggled to generate momentum against the Nittany Lions defense, and managed only 14 shots on goal. The Orange were 0-3 on the power play and gave up three power play goals. Ava Drabyk took the loss in net with 36 saves.
 
Penn State (13-0-0) rallied behind seven different goal scorers on the afternoon to continue its undefeated streak. Katie DeSea earned the shutout with 14 saves 
 
How it Happened

  • The Nittany Lions generated offense early with three goals in the first period by Katelyn Roberts, Tessa Janecke, and Danica Maynard.
  • Syracuse held strong defensively, not allowing a score in the second period and Drabyk stopped 17 shots in the net.
  • Penn State put the game away in the third when it tallied on four goals when Leah Stecker, Abby Stonehouse, Grace Outwater, and Matilde Fantin each found the back of the net to make the final score 7-0.
