This has been Qatar’s game all along as it fooled President Trump, played the Israelis, deceived the Arabs, and manipulated the international community. Qatar got Hamas to release the living Israeli hostages and the bodies with the promise that disarmament or the international force would never happen, and that the terror group would be recycled as the only effective security apparatus after the war ended.

Of course, Doha is only and solely focused on ensuring that Hamas maintains singular rule and dominion over Gaza, regardless of any noise about a technocratic governance apparatus or transitional period that involves all Palestinian political players. The Trump administration got played, big time, and there needs to be an adequate and appropriate response to ensure that Hamas is never again in charge of the Gaza Strip, for war and a renewed investment in terrorism would simply be a matter of time.
