University of Florida College Republicans respond to deactivation of local chapter

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – University of Florida’s College Republicans chapter responded to UF’s statement on that was posted earlier today.

The chapter says that they aren’t part of the Florida Federation of College Republicans, but instead part of the organization College Republicans of America.

The student organization also mentions they have retained counsel and have received information that this is not the first time that FFCR has lied to silence Christian conservative groups on campus.”

The University of Florida moved to deactivate its local chapter of College Republicans after the state organization disbanded the group due to allegations of antisemitism

In a statement posted to social media, UF said it was “recently informed by the Florida Federation of College Republicans that it had disbanded the local chapter of College Republicans.”

The FFCR also requested UF to deactivate its’ local chapter as a registered student organization.

The request came after the state organization found that some local CR members had engaged in a “pattern of conduct” that violated the federation’s rules and values, including a recent antisemitic gesture.

The university also said it “has empathetically supported its Jewish community and remains committed to preventing and addressing antisemitism and other forms of discrimination and harassment that are threatening and disruptive.”

UF officials say they are in the process of deactivating the organization in accordance with its policies.

Officials said when the FFCR is ready to reestablish the chapter, the university would assist in reactivating the chapter under new leadership.
