About the role:

Qatar Airways are pleased to announce an incredibly exciting opportunity to join our team as a Manager Health, Safety and Environment who is responsible to Lead, guide, and direct all HSE across QDFC, including the planning, implementing and operating the organization’s safety management system (SMS). Liaise and work with Qatar Airways Corporate Safety Group to ensure that policies and processes are aligned, and directives are followed. Ensure that the Health, Safety and Environment that QDFC aims to provide is fit for purpose, is consistent and meets both external and internal requirements, including legal compliance, airline, airport expectations and CAA directives. Provide Management with advice and guidance on Health, Safety, and Environment matters to champion and promote awareness, monitor safety performance and audit compliance.

Operations:

  • Devise and establish company’s safety procedures, standards and specifications, to meet international and national standards.

  • Implement and monitor QDFC Safety Management and Environment System and provide for their updating in line with changes in Legislation and Company Directives.

  • Engaging with multiple stakeholders across the business, advising them in HSE and being the go-to subject matter expert for them in safety.

  • Develop campaigns of ‘safety culture’ across QDFC and develop policies and procedures to promote “Just Culture” across QDFC.

  • Prevent or reduce health and environmental risks, formulate environmental protection policies and procedures, and develop alternatives to enhance operational procedures.

  • Promote and coordinate the integration of environmental management and sustainability issues into policies and operations.

  • Provide technical support to the building services department on projects, and on building modifications that have environmental impacts.

  • Prepare guidelines for the inspection of all buildings, installations and operations with a view to identifying hazards and making recommendations.

  • Participate in HAZOP (A hazard and operability study) meetings prior to procurement and installation activities.

  • Provide Safety support and advice, including supervision of the preparation of plans and procedures for initial contract start up activities.

  • Through root-cause analysis of accidents, incidents, process-failures; identify trends and suggest improvement plans; manage ‘risk assessment’ campaigns to significantly reduce risk to acceptable management levels.

  • Lead QDFC Safety team by providing management, direction and hands on approach for monitoring, reporting and investigating day to day operational HS&E issues, produce reports and make recommendations.

  • Hold regular audits and spot-checks of QDFC to risk-assess that the agreed SOPs satisfy the need for maintaining consistent professional standards; also carry out safety audits on sub-contractors.

  • Reviews the department’s standards, procedures and policies proactively on an on-going basis and prepares monthly and annual reports on HSE performance.

  • Ensure all Manuals are updated and distributed efficiently and effectively.

  • Initiate and coordinate the Operational Safety Committee Meetings, with total staff involvement, as the coach and the train-the-trainers.

  • Communicate, train and educate staff through all implementation processes of new compliance requirements to maintain standards. Ensure all internal QDFC stakeholders are adequately trained and up to date with QDFC ERP.

  • Liaise closely with other Group Safety Managers, as well as regular involvement with other Safety Action Groups for sharing ideas and issues.

  • Cooperate with Qatar Airways Safety on their Corporate Safety Policy, and all other relevant stakeholders to match their compliance and conformance levels in the day-today operations as well as for audits. Ensure implementation of any Health & Safety Procedures issued by QR Safety, QCAA, or HIA Airport Safety, in the event of specific occurrences, incidents or accidents.

  • Lead emergency exercises on behalf of QDFC by coordinating with different stakeholders and QDFC management.

  • Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department.
