Florida woman shoots, kills veteran during dispute about Walmart parking spot: authorities

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. (TNND) — An argument about a parking spot outside a Walmart in Florida took a tragic turn when a woman shot and killed a 62-year-old man, according to authorities.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office said Bart Diguglielmo, a New Jersey native, suffered a gunshot wound to his stomach. He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Family members reportedly identified Diguglielmo as a retired U.S. Army staff sergeant and former trauma nurse.

“He was a Christian man and a very good person and would not hurt anyone,” Diguglielmo’s sister, who didn’t’ share her full name, told CBS News Miami.

The shooting happened on Tuesday afternoon outside a Walmart in North Lauderdale, the sheriff’s office said. The confrontation started with a verbal dispute over a parking space before escalating into the deadly shooting, according to authorities.

Video obtained by WPLG appears to show the two arguing before the woman fired a single shot. Diguglielmo is seen falling to the ground in the footage.

“I was walking up and heard a lady screaming,” David Anderson, a witness, told CBS News Miami. “She was screaming and she was saying a lot of things.”

Authorities said the woman, who was not identified, remained at the scene, cooperated with deputies, and told investigators she acted in self-defense. She was not immediately arrested.

The sheriff’s office said homicide detectives are investigating the shooting. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be presented to the Broward State Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether criminal charges are warranted.
