Construction on the Interstate 70 Exit 203 project in Frisco is entering its second phase this week, with crews shifting traffic onto a newly built section of the underpass bridge and beginning additional interchange improvements.
Beginning Wednesday, Aug. 5, traffic on Colorado Highway 9 between I-70 and Lusher Court in Frisco will temporarily shift west onto the new underpass bridge deck, which was constructed during the project’s first phase. The traffic switch will allow crews to begin building the east side of the underpass bridge while maintaining access through the area. Phase two work will also include widening the eastbound I-70 on- and off-ramps on the north side of the interchange.
Drivers should expect shoulder closures on both sides of the Exit 203 bridge to remain in place until bridge widening work is complete. The temporary traffic switch may also require occasional single-lane closures overnight.
Construction crews will continue daytime work between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and nighttime work between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
On Tuesday, Aug. 3, crews will install a guardrail on the eastbound I-70 off-ramp ahead of the traffic switch.
The second phase builds on work already completed this year, including construction of the underpass bridge foundations, girders, deck and retaining walls. Crews will also continue stormwater drainage improvements, sanitary sewer replacement and widening of the existing I-70 bridge.
The project is expected to continue through the fall of 2027, with a planned winter hiatus.
