Spring Hill resident calls for speed patrols on street

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — A Spring Hill resident is asking for more speed patrols on Noddy Tern Road, saying increased development near State Road 50 has brought more traffic and speeding to the residential street.

Isaac Danyluk put up a “Please Slow Down” sign near his home after seeing drivers exceeding the 30 mph speed limit. The sign also says, “It’s not a racetrack.”

Danyluk said he has a video of several drivers speeding on Noddy Tern Road.

“That was at least 50-60, easily,” Danyluk said while describing one vehicle.

Danyluk said development near his neighborhood has added traffic in recent years. He also said that the incline of the road may contribute to drivers traveling faster.

He even started a neighborhood petition asking for more speed enforcement on Noddy Tern Road.

“We started a couple of days ago and I do it after work, and about 90 percent of the doors I’ve knocked on this road have signed it,” Danyluk said.

Hernando County says residents can make a request through its Calming Municipal Services Benefit Unit (MSBU) program.

They can also report speeding violations to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Danyluk says he has seen speed feedback signs on the road from the sheriff’s office, but he is still hoping for more patrols. 

“I’d like to have my kids be able to come outside and safely play outside and shoot hoops and stuff like that,” he said. “Can’t have that right now.”
