Here are my top picks for what to buy right now in the gargantuan Steam Autumn Sale! Be quick, as the sale ends on October 8th.
Watch_Dogs 2 is a stellar title that pulled in much more positive reviews than the third game, which was set in a near-future rendition of London. Earlier this year, Watch_Dogs 2 skyrocketed in popularity all over again when a massive sale pushed it to a ten-year high.

This is a new historical low for Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst, the high-octane, energetic parkour title that marked the end of the franchise from Electronic Arts. It’s a gorgeous game that dropped ten years ago on Steam, and it’s still worth every penny.
Cost: $0.99 / £0.89

It’s not all about energetic shooters and high-speed racing games. You might want to kick back and chill out with a rod in your hand and a bit of bait on the end of your hook, and that’s where Ultimate Fishing Simulator comes in. It’s a top-rated fishing game, one of the best on Steam, and it’s dirt cheap right now.
Cost: $1.19 / £1.00

Dave the Diver is a relatively unassuming title on the surface that offers incredible depth and a remarkable single-player experience. It’s not the kind of game you’d expect to have made it big, but it did, and it’s an award-winning adventure RPG with hundreds of thousands of strong reviews.

You’re a little kitty in the big city in Little Kitty, Big City, in case that wasn’t obvious. This is a super charming game with adorable visuals and neat little puzzles to solve, and it won my heart over when it came out in 2024.

If you’d rather take things back to where they started in the Dying Light universe, consider picking up the 2015 open-world epic. It holds up remarkably well, and Techland is still updating it and holding in-game events all these years later.
Cost: $2.49 / £1.99

Limbo is a moving and troubling side-scrolling title that’s light on the input but heavy on the output. It’s an emotional, twisted game that will leave you feeling rather disconcerted, and it’s one of the top-rated titles of all time on Steam.

RoboCop: Rogue City is a seriously slick title that simply smacks of the cult classic series. It’s a retro thriller with insanely good visuals and a story that keeps you genuinely entertained. Plus, it’s one of the easiest 100% achievements I’ve ever unlocked.

It might not be the best-rated Far Cry game ever, but Far Cry 6 is the most recent title in the series, and it stars the acting talents of Giancarlo Esposito, which speaks volumes. It’s dirt cheap right now, so it might be time to invest while it’s in the Steam Autumn Sale.
Cost: $5.99 / £4.99

If you’ve never played Half-Life 2, you’re missing out on a piece of video game history. I’d advocate for giving this one a shot, even if you’re totally unfamiliar with the universe, as it’s one heck of an experience and will set you up for Half-Life 3 (if it ever comes…)

Similarly, Half-Life: Alyx is one of the most critically acclaimed VR games ever made, and it has more positive reviews than any other VR game on Steam. It’s simply incredible, and if you’ve got a VR headset and you’ve NOT played it, you’re doing yourself a serious disservice.

Continuing down the Valve path, we’ve got Portal 2, an award-winning, paradigm-shifting game that has acquired almost half a million seriously strong reviews on Steam.
