A pregnant woman has broken her tailbone while 13 others have been hospitalized in a crash involving two airboats in the Florida Everglades.

The Greater Naples Fire Rescue District and Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded to an airboat crash at 3:10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, according to a post from the fire department on Facebook.

Alssya Windom, who is seven months pregnant, broke her tailbone in the crash at Wooten’s Airboat Tours in Ochopee. She had been traveling on the airboat with her 7-year-old son AJ and his football team from Pittsburg, Calif., when it collided with another airboat, per ABC 7 News.

“This particular spot, it’s a curve and there were two boats coming … it was too late to react, respond,” Windom, 31, told the outlet.

“When I woke up children were in the water. I believe we were knocked out for a few seconds, the other boat was on top of our boat it just took a while to kind of realize what was going on.”

“The boat was wrecked, water was coming in, kids were screaming, blood everywhere, mud everywhere,” she added of the aftermath.

Windom said she conducted CPR on another mother who she found “floating in the water,” before she “started to feel pain” and moved away. She was airlifted to a hospital along with a 3-year-old, ABC 7 News reported.

The fire department confirmed that 14 people were hospitalized in total.

The airboat crash occurred in the area south of U.S. 41 East between the 74 and 75 mile markers, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to PEOPLE in a written statement.

A preliminary investigation determined that there were 20 passengers on one of the airboats and 13 people on the other vehicle, CBS News reported.

Windom, a United Airlines flight attendant, is unable to work for the foreseeable future so a GoFundMe page has been set up by her family to fundraise for medical and living expenses.

Per GoFundMe, Windom also injured her leg in the crash and her son is suffering from PTSD. “He was screaming on the way back home thinking the plane was going to crash so he needs some therapy,” Windom said, per ABC 7.

Wooten’s Everglades Airboat Tours, who operated one of the vessels in the crash, issued a statement, per CBS News, saying, “All of us at Wooten’s offer our sincere sympathies to everyone involved, and wish them a speedy recovery.”

PEOPLE has reached out to Wooten’s Everglades Airboat Tours for further updates but did not immediately hear back.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the incident.
