The video game glut conundrum

There are too many video games, writes Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, thanks to cheaper development tools and fewer gatekeepers. In September alone, at least two new releases were deemed among the best of 2025. So while a glut of games, in this case, doesn’t come at the expense of quality, it does ding the odds that even a well-reviewed game ever reaches a critical mass. In a less saturated market, Schreier suggests, Dreamhaven’s Wildgate and Sunderfolk, for example, may have made more of a dent.
