MONROE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A suspicious package weighing around one kilogram — just over two pounds — was discovered early Monday morning by a passerby cleaning the beach near Mile Marker 91 on the oceanside in the Upper Keys.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) said the package was found at around 8 a.m. on October 27. The sheriff’s office did not immediately disclose the contents of the package, but its weight and packaging raised concerns.
The person who found the package promptly notified local law enforcement. MCSO deputies responded to the scene and subsequently turned the package over to the U.S. Border Patrol for further investigation.
Officials have not yet released additional details regarding the origin or contents of the package. The incident remains under investigation.
