Broward County’s Amy Sauerman named USTA Florida Tennis Volunteer of the Month

For over a decade, Amy Sauerman has been a driving force behind tennis programming in Florida, combining her love for the game with a passion for creating opportunities for others.

As a long-time captain, advocate, and former National Committee Member, Amy wears many hats, but her goal has always been to make tennis more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Based out of the Lauderdale Tennis Club, Amy has spent the past 10 years tirelessly supporting her local tennis community. From captaining league teams for Women’s 5.0, 8.5 9.5, Tri-Level, Mixed Doubles, and more to serving as a facilities liaison, she’s made it her mission to ensure every player has a chance to play.

“I’ve captained teams I don’t even play on just so players have opportunities to meet new people and play competitively,” she said. Her giving spirit extends beyond team management as Amy also organizes tournaments to raise funds for facility improvements and constantly encourages her club to host more events.

Amy’s journey into the world of tennis leadership started in college with the Tennis on Campus (TOC) program at the University of Arizona. “The entire four years I played on the club tennis team and those were some of the best times I’ve had. I met my best friends and my husband,” she said.

She also credits TOC for helping put her in the spot she is today, helping other people enjoy the sport. “I really feel that playing TOC has made me into the tennis advocate I am today,” Amy said. “With those connections I was able to put myself through college by working at the local tennis facility and landed my first grown up job at a USTA local office.”

Since relocating to Florida, Amy has continued using tennis as a bridge to build new connections and foster community. “When I moved to Florida, I was instantly able to make friends by playing leagues,” she said.

Whether she’s coordinating matches, mentoring new captains, or promoting club engagement, Amy brings enthusiasm and heart to every endeavor. “I like to volunteer in tennis because it’s fun! Throughout my life, others have been so welcoming to me as teammates and players. I want to invite others to do the same.”

USTA Florida wants to congratulate Amy for being named the Tennis Volunteer of the Month. Her dedication to making sure everyone has the opportunity to enjoy tennis doesn’t go unnoticed and the Lauderdale Tennis Club is lucky to have a tennis advocate like her.

From captaining to community advocacy, Amy Sauerman exemplifies the impact that one dedicated volunteer can have on growing the game on and off the court.
