CLEARWATER, Fla. — A pet owner is facing an animal cruelty charge after Clearwater police rescued a cat from a hot car.
The Clearwater Police Department posted on Facebook that the cat was stuck inside a car at Clearwater Beach while it was 92 degrees out with a feels-like temperature of 102 degrees.
Police say it was even hotter inside the car with the passenger window only slightly cracked.
After officers forced one of the windows down, they brought the kitty inside a patrol cruiser with air conditioning “cranked.”
“He enjoyed exploring in the nice cool air,” the post reads.
The cat was later taken to a vet to be checked out.
“Do not leave your kids or your pets in hot cars,” the department wrote on Facebook. “It can be deadly hot inside a closed-up vehicle.”
