Florida moms turn in sons after $50K vandalism at Friendship Elementary
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Two boys accused of vandalizing Friendship Elementary School in Deltona have been identified—thanks to their own mothers.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VSO) says the 12 and 13-year-old boys caused more than $50,000 in damage to the school’s media center on September 14. Deputies initially responded to a fire alarm and found a shattered glass door and extensive destruction inside. Surveillance footage captured two suspects, and investigators released the video, asking for help.
That help came quickly. “We received lots of emails identifying them—thank you all!” the sheriff’s office said.
We also received contacts from each of the defendants’ mothers.”

The boys reportedly broke into the school during the day, then returned later that evening to cause additional damage, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Both confessed to the incident and now face multiple counts, including:
- 2 counts of burglary
- 2 counts of trespassing on school grounds
- Criminal mischief
- Theft
