In the age of fear, politics is becoming feminized: women are setting priorities in public life. – Universidad de Guadalajara

A group of leading women journalists, activists and analysts jumped from an intimate circle to the public sphere to denounce violence, promote the gender agenda and the implications of women in decision-making spaces.
 
They participated in the International Meeting of Government and Civil Society “The crossroads of the world in the age of fear. Irruptions and disruptions: the feminization of politics”, within the framework of the Fil Pensamiento program.
 
Gabriela Warkentin , writer, researcher, academic, translator, screenwriter and host of the news program Así las cosas on W Radio, introduced the topic and first asked political scientist Denise Dresser how the group of friends and professionals who called themselves “Las Bravas” were formed.
 
Denise Dresser, also an editorialist for the Reforma newspaper , recounted that the group of professionals called “Las Bravas” was born from a popular exercise on social networks that, instead of choosing influential men, chose women who have in common talent and an indomitable and critical character, and the discussion of the gender agenda.
 
“Faced with the incessant questioning in the universe of networks of the overrepresentation of violence against women, due to physical appearance, age, sexual preference, political identity, plurality prevails in the group of women to discuss and deliberate ,” said the political analyst.
 
She said that women identify as feminists, a circumstance that a few years ago still showed resistance, although violence, femicide, and sexual harassment against them remain.
 
Peniley Ramírez, a journalist and columnist for Sinembargo magazine , El Heraldo de México , El Universal , and Reforma , as well as a correspondent for the investigative unit at Univision , said that the press sometimes does not criticize women in power so as not to affect their hard-won victories.
 
“Let’s not judge them by their closeness to the boss, but by their decisions in power: as women we are in power and we shouldn’t be judged childishly, and they shouldn’t be criticized harshly or inconsistently because they are women in power,” she asserted.
 
She added that the role of women without positions of power but exercising their rights has been to fight battles such as “sexting,” not from a position of power, but from the perspective of women who are victims , as well as laws and budgets for the search for the disappeared: women who fight and who exercise their power
 
Former Federal Deputy and Alternate Senator, Martha Tagle, denounced the obstacles faced by women in participating in public life.
 
“It is the space where transformation can be generated without the opinion or vision of women, and for that reason, the participation of women is recognized, but it must be translated into reality by getting involved in public decisions, not just where men are in charge,” she stressed.
 
Reporter, political columnist, and disability rights activist Katia D’Artigues referred to the silenced voices of women to please their bosses or work teams , an important omission in the exercise of power that could apply in the case of the pre-candidates.
 
“How much are they? How much is Xóchitl and Claudia, and how well do they get along with their bosses and work team ?” the activist questioned.
 
On the same topic, political discourse analyst Jaina Pereyra said that in women’s political participation, it is important that they have a voice, a feminist and gender agenda to occupy spaces of representation.
 
“There are gender biases that dictate that women cannot be present. The arrival of women in the public decision-making space makes representation more democratic in a congress where it shouldn’t only be men in suits,” she stated.
 
The rector of the University Center of Los Altos ( CUAltos ), Dr. Karla Planter, and the research professor of the UdeG, Dr. David Gómez Álvarez, presented the participants of the forum.
