Local musicians to celebrate The Kinks at benefit tribute show Saturday – WXPN
This Saturday, The Fallser Club will celebrate the iconic British rock band The Kinks with KINKSTRAVAGANZA, which will bring out local acts and specials guests to honor The Kinks’ 60-year career.
The Modbeats will perform pre-1971 Kinks hits. Then, side one of 1971’s Muswell Hillbillies will be performed by Citizen Riot, while The Edge Hill Rounders will perform side 2. The No Good Crowd will perform Kinks hits released after 1971.
Throughout the sets, these fours bands will be joined by special guests Wesley Stace, Adam Weiner of Low Cut Connie, John Faye, Roberta Faceplant, and Steve Skinner.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Juntos, a community-led, Latine immigrant organization in South Philadelphia fighting for human rights for workers, parents, youth, and immigrants.
“Its pretty cool to celebrate one of the greatest bands ever while raising funds for a crucial cause,” Weiner said. “Ray Davies is one of my ultimate songwriting heroes and it’s gonna be so fun to play these great songs. Both his sarcasm and his humanity feel very appropriate for the times we are living through in America right now.”
“The Kinks’ songs are full of heart—championing underdogs, poking holes in hypocrisy, and finding humanity in everyday life,” WXPN Programming Director and member of The No Good Crowd Jim McGuinn said. “Ray Davies’ sharp wit and compassion have kept these songs resonating across generations. We’re excited to join Adam Weiner, Wesley Stace, Roberta Faceplant, John Faye, and so many great musicians for a night celebrating that spirit while supporting Juntos and the vital work they do in immigrant communities.”
The show is presented by Live Local Philly.
