TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Closure of Citrus Canal Bridge Eastbound on Morrison Road

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans announced today that, starting Thursday, June 25, the Department of Public Works (DPW) will close the Citrus Canal Bridge eastbound on Morrison Road. This closure is necessary to accommodate bridge repairs as part of the Morrison Road Improvement Project. The closure will remain in effect until September 2026.
During this time construction crews will perform approach slab replacements, guard rail replacement, bridge deck repairs and cross bracing replacement.
Drivers traveling eastbound on Morrison Road are advised to detour at Mayo Boulevard and use the I-10 Service Road or Hayne Boulevard. While thru-traffic will be restricted, local two-way access will be provided on either side of the closure for local access to businesses and homes.
Safety is our top priority. Traffic control measures, including signage, cones, and fencing will be in place to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians.
Other bridge closures associated with the project are still in effect. The bridges include Lawrence Canal and Benson Canal bridge.
This work is a part of the DPW574: Morrison Road (Mayo–Bullard) Improvement Project, a $23.6 million investment funded by the Federal Highway Administration (80%) and the City of New Orleans Bond Program (20%).
The project includes roadway repairs, bridge, street, and sidewalk improvements to enhance safety, accessibility, and travel options for everyone, whether walking, biking, or driving. Work hours are generally Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with occasional weekend work as needed.
