Second child dies after crash involving Cybertruck on I-35 service road

AUSTIN, Texas — Police have identified a second child killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a Cybertruck on the I-35 service road as 6-year-old Abigail Segura.

The crash happened around 7:41 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, at the intersection of the South I-35 northbound service road and the East state Highway 71 westbound service road, according to the Austin Police Department. It involved a Jeep Compass carrying a driver and two juvenile passengers and a Tesla Cybertruck carrying a single driver, police said.

Authorities said both children riding in the Jeep were taken to the hospital for treatment. The first child, identified as 9-year-old Lilliana Segura, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Abigail was hospitalized with critical injuries following the crash.

Austin Police said Abigail died from her injuries Tuesday morning.

Police said the Jeep was traveling north on the I-35 service road while the Tesla was traveling west on the East Ben White Boulevard service road. Investigators are still working to determine what led to the collision, police said. Both drivers are cooperating with investigators, and police said neither was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

The crash is Austin’s 56th and 60th fatal crash of 2026.
