Sioux Falls road construction projects to affect traffic within the city (May 11, 2026)

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The City of Sioux Falls announced several road construction projects that will begin on May 11 and will impact travel in parts of the city.

Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce speeds while traveling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.

Cleveland Avenue Street Closure

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026, South Cleveland Avenue will be closed between 22nd Street and 19th Street. Traffic will be detoured onto South Bahnson Avenue from 26th Street and 18th Street. The east sidewalk along South Cleveland Avenue will be closed between 22nd Street to 19th Street. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the east along South Gary Drive.

APX Construction will be doing utility work. The street is expected to be opened and traffic control removed on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, by the end of the day.

26th Street Lane Sidewalk and Closure

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026, West 26th Street will be closed to westbound through traffic between West Avenue and Garfield Avenue. The north sidewalk will also be closed between Garfield Avenue and Lincoln Avenue. Vehicle traffic will be detoured to West 22nd Street and pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the south sidewalk on 26th Street.

First Rate Excavate will be excavating for utility work. This work is expected to be completed by Monday, May 18, 2026. Traffic control will be removed by the end of the day.

Minnesota Avenue Lane Closure

Beginning on Monday, May 11, 2026, the outside northbound lane of South Minnesota Avenue will be closed between La Quinta Circle and 69th Street to allow the contractor to complete concrete repairs.

The repairs are anticipated to be finished in one week, weather depending.

Phillips Avenue Street Closure

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, North Phillips Avenue will be closed between Eighth Street and Ninth Street.

City of Sioux Falls Water Maintenance crews will be performing repairs to a hydrant lead. The street is expected to be opened and traffic control removed by the end of the same day.
