The Fourth-Highest Selling Video Game Franchise of All Time Is Headed to Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo is known for Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, and Super Smash Bros. The company has created a special kind of brand loyalty with its first-party exclusive titles, but that has sometimes been at the expense of major third-party games.
Fans who own the Switch 2 are finally starting to see the tide shift towards Nintendo as a destination for non-exclusive content. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was one of the biggest releases of May 2026 on Nintendo hardware. Now, Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be coming to Switch 2 on October 23, 2026.

The Call of Duty franchise has sold in excess of 500 million units since its inception in 2003. This is good for the fourth-highest total in video game history. Fans of Nintendo consoles have had to find other ways to play these games since 2013, though; the last time Call of Duty was on Nintendo was Call of Duty: Ghosts on Wii U.

The game will focus on North Korea waging war on South Korea, and the rest of the world having to find the proper response to the violence. The game’s official website gives a little more detail on the battles that will be fought.
“The Campaign drops players into trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, high-octane chases through Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai, and city-wide assaults to reclaim occupied territory. Multiplayer delivers grounded, precise combat where fluid movement, player choice, and greater control define every engagement.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will also be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Those platforms always get Call of Duty games, though. The franchise returning to Nintendo is another sign of the respect and increased hardware fidelity of the Switch 2 compared to the original Switch.
